Hello, my name is Cassie Glinkowski and I am the Manager of Streetscapes and Public Spaces at Center City District. For the past 8 months I have been chasing down newspaper publications to hold them to their obligations to keep their newspaper boxes clean. I have developed a working relationship with the top 8 most frequently appearing newspaper box publishers, and share with them regular results of CCD surveys of graffiti and stickers. I would also like permission to send them your instances.
Share as you like. Photos are often posted live and almost always within 24 hours of when they are taken. Thanks for your efforts and good luck!
Why don't you launch a campaign to help stop the scumbags that tag the boxes, telephone poles, buildings and anything else that they can vandalize? Most newspapers try very hard to keep their boxes clean but within days they are trashed all over again. it is impossible for them to have every box clean all the time when you have thugs roaming the neighborhoods.
We have a system in place to catch the vandals: a $500 million police department. However, I read Center City crime reports almost every week, and in spite of hundreds of damaged boxes, I have never seen a news company report one. Why is it possible that we have clean mailboxes and bus shelters and everything else, but not newspaper boxes? The law requires that they maintain the boxes, but there’s no profit so they don’t.
